THIS CLASS HAS A 10 HOUR ONLINE COMPONENT THAT MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE START OF THE CLASS. THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF THE REGISTRATION.
Prerequisites to Participate in the Water Safety Instructor Course
To participate in the Water Safety Instructor course, you must:
* Be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course.
* Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
- Swim the following strokes consistent with American Red Cross Level 4 stroke performance criteria:
* Front crawl—25 yards
* Back crawl—25 yards
* Breaststroke—25 yards
* Elementary backstroke—25 yards
* Sidestroke—25 yards
* Butterfly—15 yards
- Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
- Tread water for 1 minute
* Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Swimming and Water Safety Program. You will be given this in class.
* Successfully demonstrate competency in the Pre-course Session.
Note: Age will be verified during the Pre-course Session. Also, be sure to bring the signature page as evidence that
you completed the online Orientation to the Swimming and Water Safety Program.
Certification Requirement
To become certified as a Water Safety instructor, you must:
* Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Swimming and Water Safety Program.
* Successfully complete the Pre-course Session.
* Attend and actively participate in all course sessions (including any assigned online content).
* Successfully complete class activities, including the required practice-teaching assignments.
* Score a minimum of 80 percent (40 correct answers our of 50 questions) on the instructor course final written exam
